The almighty and all-knowing Jesus Christ (33), sly auntie Anka (57), and a curious hog Beba (2) abide in the rolling hills of the Croatian region of Zagorje during the war in the 1990s. Their arsenal: a hunting rifle and a plastic gun. The intricate bittersweet plot is dominated by the drama of first love between pigs in the moment of an air- raid, and the malfunctioning of a hood at a hairdresser’s mid-styling. A wedding, a local church festival, playful songs, Mother of God, cheese, cream and a happy end are included. Other than pigs at slaughter, nobody gets hurt, but there are 16 newborns! Goran Dukić directed Wristcutters: A Love Story, which premiered in
Sundance in 2007.
