This film focuses on a young vagrant calling himself Il Capitano and his even younger girlfriend. In one stolen car after another, the couple journeys south from Finland on a thieving expedition. En route they drink, make love and kill a family who unexpectedly confronts them in the remote countryside. Being released so soon after the actual event, the 1988 Åmsele murders in Sweden, the film was very controversial at the time. Troell was awarded the Best Director Award at Berlinale.
