Motovun Film Festival has a new cinema – Cinema Billy! The new venue is located where Bambus Bar used to be. To honor this year's guest and an old friend of the festival, Stephen Daldry, we have named it Billy after the main character of his debutant film Billy Elliot, the first winner of Propeller Award.
Stephen Daldry is a world-renowned British filmmaker (Billy Elliot, Hours, The Reader, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close). All of his feature-length films were nominated for the Academy Award. Billy Elliot was his directorial debut and Propeller Award at Motovun 2000 was one of the first awards the film won. That the jury decision had been far-sighted became clear when the film, rather unknown until then, was nominated for as many as 13 BAFTA Awards (lead actor Jamie Bell and scriptwriter Hall won one each) and three Oscars (directing, script and supporting actress). Daldry, our old friend and a big fan of the film festival 277 meters above reality, will be visiting Motovun for the seventh time after a seven-year break. This being its 17thedition, Motovun Film Festival felt it was a great opportunity for a spontaneous friendly gesture and decided to honor the acclaimed director by naming the new Motovun venue Cinema Billy.
The opening ceremony, led by Festival Director Igor Mirković and Stephen Daldry himself, will take place on the first day of the festival.
