Motovun’s final day has arrived, before a well-earned intermezzo, after which we continue the fun in Gorski Kotar, we bring you an exciting program filled with fantastic films and events devoted to a well of stories from the festival’s past.
The program kicks off at 12 noon, at Cinema Bauer, with a screening of Thursday , a short film directed by one of the co-founders of Motovun Film Festival, Boris T. Matić. After this, in the program Lost&Found, catch Oscar-winner A Fantastic Woman directed by Chilean director Sebastián Lelio. When transgender waitress Marina’s partner Orlando suddenly dies, her identity becomes a stumbling block in her relationship with Orlando’s family.
The last block of films in the short film competition Cinehill Shorts starts at 2 p.m. at Cinema Bauer.
During the quarter century of Motovun Film Festival, the festival witnessed countless anecdotes and crazy turns of events. If you like a good yarn, take a walk with our organizers at 3 p.m. and discover the secret history of the festival that will reveal numerous hidden details and juicy festival titbits that took place atop our little hill of films.
At 4 p.m. Cinema Bauer will present a selection of short films produced as part of the Imaginary Academy , a film educational platform formed in the 1990s, which was one of the origin points of Motovun FF. In total, 19 films were created at the Academy, while its co-founder Nenad Puhovski has selected the most interesting ones for this screening.
At 5 p.m., we have a conversation with the film crew of Dudes: Again! at the Garden, followed by a conversation with the founders and former students of the Imaginary Academy, also at the Garden, at 6 p.m.
Cinema Bauer at 6 p.m. presents the screening of Moroccan drama Hounds directed by Kamal Lazraq, a story of Hassan and his son living in a working-class suburb of Casablanca, where they get by doing jobs for the local mafia. When they are tasked with kidnapping a man, they face a night full of the unexpected. The film won the Jury Prize in the program Un Certain Regard at this year’s Cannes FF. Coupled with Hounds, we’re screening the Dutch short, Infinite Lines , a poetic documentary about the body’s complex reactions to sexual violence.
The short film competition awards ceremony and the screening of the award-winning short will take place at 9 p.m. at Cinema Square. Still at Cinema Square, this will be followed by a screening of Scrapper by British director Charlotte Regan. After her mother’s death, twelve-year-old Georgie continues to live alone in their flat on the outskirts of London and gets by by stealing. Until the unkempt and absent Jason, who claims to be her father, enters her life. The film won the World Dramatic Grand Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
At Cinema Billy, at 9:15 p.m., Croatian instrumental space jazz rock band Chui will perform the accompanying soundtrack for the classic of German silent cinema Berlin: Symphony of a Great City . The film follows the pulsating city from morning to night.
It has been 50 years since we saw David Bowie’s iconic alter-ego Ziggy Stardust live. His last performance at London’s Hammersmith Odeon included numerous hits, as well as covers of songs by the bands Velvet Underground and Rolling Stones. Catch this legendary performance, together with behind-the-scenes footage, on the main square at 11:30 p.m., where we are screening Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars , by British director D. A. Pennebaker.
The Motovun send-off starts at 1:00 a.m. with the Motovun All Stars music program.
