Awards
And the award goes to…
At the beginning, Motovun Film Festival was conceived as a noncompetitive program. However, as with many other aspects of the festival and contrary to initial aims of the organizers, events evolved through their own logic. So, Motovun Film Festival added new awards every year, reaching the list of five of them in total.
Nevertheless, the will to compete never took hold of Motovun completely. Although we are proud of every author who received any of our awards, we can still state that this festival is not about awards and awarding. Far from it.
Propeller Cinehill
Main award of the festival. It is given by an international jury to the best film in the main program.
Best Short Film
Short films up to 20 minutes compete in the Cinehill Shorts programme, and the prize is awarded by an international jury. The Cinehill Short winner enters the competition for the European Film Award.
Corto Montanaro
As of 2021, the festival selects the best Croatian short film and offers the author and producer the purchase of rights for a limited number of cinema screenings worth 1,000 EUR. All films by Croatian producers and/or authors, included in the competition program of Motovun Film Festival, are eligible for the award.
FIPRESCI Prize
Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique – the oldest and most prestigious association of film critics with members from around 50 countries of the world. The association’s award, given by its international film critics juries, gained exceptional popularity among film authors.
Maverick Award
Founded in 2008, this award is given to authors whose personality, free spirit and innovation have expanded the horizons of the art of film. Its laureates are: Ken Russell (2008), Terry Jones (2010), Ulrich Seidl (2011), Terrence Davies (2012), Mohsen Mahmalbaf (2013) and Andrei Zvyagintsev (2014).
50 Years Award
The 50 Years Award is awarded to individuals who have worked in film for more than half a century, and left a strong impact and an indelible mark in the development of film art.
