Thirty-seven years after her daughter was executed in Iran, Haleh lives in Holland and has a successful career as a scientist. Her life changes fundamentally when she meets Leyla, the woman she believes informed on her daughter. Although Haleh never saw the woman, she is convinced she can recognize her voice. But Leyla herself has become mother in the meantime and befriends Haleh, who doesn’t want to miss the opportunity for revenge. Modiri’s adaptation of his own novel is an impressive combination of a political thriller and moving drama about motherhood. The film premiered at Rotterdam International Film Festival.
